The Department of Social Welfare<\/h3>\n

The task of the Department of Social Welfare is to provide support and care to people who, due to age, disability or other reasons, need help and support.<\/p>\n

Home care services<\/strong><\/p>\n

To remain at home, individuals may need support and assistance. This may include help with services such as shopping, cleaning and laundry. Other examples include support and assistance with personal hygiene, medication, escorting and supervision.<\/p>\n

Social housing<\/strong><\/p>\n

Assisted sheltered housing is intended for older people, aged 65 or over, who mainly need support and assistance in housing and other easily accessible services. There is also a need for security and companionship and a need for care that is less than full-time care. <\/span><\/p>\n

Short-term accommodation<\/strong><\/p>\n

Garni’s short-term accommodation is for individuals who need to live temporarily outside their home environment. The aim of short-term accommodation is to complement the home and provide safe care at all stages of life. A short-term place can be granted as alternating care to varying degrees or as a short-term place, e.g. after discharge from hospital where extensive home care services cannot be provided.<\/p>\n

Retirement homes<\/strong><\/p>\n

When individuals are no longer able to live at home, they may receive a decision from the social services to move to a nursing home. The nursing home is staffed 24 hours a day and provides individual support and help with those activities that the individual cannot manage on their own.<\/p>\n

Accommodation and support<\/strong><\/p>\n

Here, your patients may include both older and younger people with disabilities. Depending on where you work, your workplace may be in the user’s own home, a service home, a short-term\/leisure centre or a group home. Examples of duties include supporting the user in their daily life, leisure time and care tasks.<\/p>\n

Personal assistance<\/strong><\/p>\n

Personal assistance is a designed support provided in daily life by a limited number of people. As far as possible, the user should have an influence and co-determination over the services provided.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Working in the Social Administration<\/h3>\n

Operations are largely governed by various laws such as the Social Services Act and the Act on Support and Services for Certain Disabled Persons (LSS). This means that all interventions provided to individuals have a decision on the form of assistance to be provided. When an application for assistance is being considered, an individual assessment must always be made. If the individual is not satisfied with the decision, it is usually possible to appeal to the courts. Assistance can take many different forms, such as a place in a retirement home or group home, help from home care services, support and help for parents, relief for relatives, financial assistance (income support), and personal assistance.<\/p>\n

The Social Services Department cooperates with a variety of actors such as the police, Region Norrbotten, various non-profit organisations and other organisations.
