How many times must something happen for it to become a tradition? It remains to be seen if there will be a fifth time, and perhaps a tradition, for Boden artist Victoria Sundqvist<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n

With roots in Boden, it’s always a pleasure for Victoria to come to her hometown and decorate facades. She now runs a tattoo studio in Stockholm and also releases a tattoo podcast once a week. When skin isn’t enough, and when summer thaws, she moves her artistry to house facades. She always draws inspiration for the murals from Norrbotten, regardless of where she paints. “When I was little, the forest felt like a magical place that was endless. We have unique nature and such beautiful natural phenomena, so it’s natural that the inspiration comes from there.” <\/p>\n\n

It’s almost five years since the first pilot project was launched. There was a white concrete building in the middle of town,where the demolition decision was signed and approved. There, Victoria, together with childhood friend Oskar Mannberg, was tasked with decorating the facade. Since the building was going to be demolished anyway, it was like a reversible tattoo in the everyday life of Boden residents, which could actually be undone if they didn’t like it. <\/p>\n\n

CHILDHOOD MEMORIES MEET ART<\/h3>\n\n

This year marked the third consecutive year for Victoria’s mural paintings, and now with two paintings in the same summer. The first one on Hedenbrov\u00e4gen near Garnis, depicting an owl diving towards the ground in the midnight sun and clutching a bunch of blueberry twigs with its claws. A painting that Victoria herself is very pleased with, and which she thinks is nicely placed where many see it on their way to work. <\/p>\n\n

“It’s always fun to come home to Boden and work. There are nice people who come by daily to look, greet, and compliment. And it’s great that Boden municipality is actually investing in public spaces.” <\/p>\n\n

The skylift moves on through the town. From an owl in the midnight sun, the tour continues to Margaretagatan, where a fox on a butterfly hunt will be painted. The fox bounces through a night landscape with northern lights in the sky, a motif that clearly feels locally inspired. Victoria herself has lived on Margaretagatan as a child, and she has also spent a lot of time in the nearby playground Sm\u00f6rblomman with her younger siblings. She is delighted to be able to paint on such a well-known hub in town that everyone has a connection to. “It was a bit different painting on Margaretagatan. Partly because it was tongue and groove paneling, so I had to be careful to paint between and on the side of the boards. But also because I was painting from the skylift outside people’s windows and balconies. It felt like a coffee commercial, when I came on an unexpected visit,” Victoria says and laughs. <\/p>\n\n

We Boden residents thank and bow for the paintings that enrich the art and culture in our local life, and hope that these color bombs become some kind of tradition!<\/p>\n\n
