Janita Luttunen, a professional harness racing trainer from Tornio, has started a new life in Boden. Together with her husband Jani, their four-year-old twin girls, and twelve trotting horses, she now has Boden’s excellent training tracks and Sweden’s northernmost harness racing track right on her doorstep. <\/strong> <\/p>\n\n

“Life has become so much easier here,” says Janita, as she works side by side with her husband Jani Lamminparras. Together they form Team Luttunen and move comfortably among their horses in the stable they have just moved into at Bodentravet. Some of the horses feel at home here, just like Janita, after many competitive visits to Boden. But now they have come to stay. <\/p>\n\n

Janita has lived with horses and had a burning interest in harness racing all her life. As a young woman, she also actively competed as a skier in Finland. Her competitive spirit and desire to build long-term sustainable and successful training have lined her path through life. No matter what happened, the horses have always been there. <\/p>\n\n

“Even though they can’t talk, you can read them. When we come to the stable, the horses are always happy. I like to train, compete, and reach new goals with the horses,” she says with a smile in her melodious Finland-Swedish accent. <\/p>\n\n

In Team Luttunen’s stable, there are currently twelve horses. Team Luttunen co-owns three of them, and Janita has one of her own. The rest are other people’s horses that Janita trains. She is also a driver but prefers to drive horses other than those she has trained herself. <\/p>\n\n

“When I drive my own horses, it’s easy for me to overthink.” <\/p>\n\n

She sees it as an enticing challenge to take on young horses with potential and the possibility to shape them into really good racing horses. She has several young horses but also older ones that she has followed for longer. One example is six-year-old Ivar Journey, who came to Team Luttunen as a three-year-old with 20,000 in his account. Since he came to them, he has earned half a million. <\/p>\n\n

TRAINING WITH QUALITY OF LIFE<\/h3>\n\n

Both as a skier, harness racing trainer, and driver, Janita has been to Boden many times. Now she has settled down for real, to get the best possible training opportunities and quality of life at the same time. <\/p>\n\n

The Luttunen Lamminparras couple has just landed with their moving load in Boden. The move was only 140 kilometers long, but it stretched across a national and language border. It required long and many preparations to get everything ready for the move of the twelve horses in their trotting stable. But moving family and home to a new country also requires a lot of practical solutions for housing, preschool, and more. <\/p>\n\n

“Our girls were very curious about moving and have started learning Swedish already before,” Janita explains. <\/p>\n\n

They have exchanged villa life with their own stable in Tornio for an apartment in Boden. <\/p>\n\n

“It feels fun with an apartment, now we feel we have time and opportunity to do a little more with the children.” <\/p>\n\n

“We are so grateful that everything has worked out so well for the children. It has gone really well, and we feel warmly welcomed everywhere.” <\/p>\n\n

BODEN, THE HORSE CITY<\/h3>\n\n

In Boden, there is a wide range of horse activities, from harness racing to private riding and western riding. Both the trotting and riding club, and from the very beginning the horses in the Defense, have characterized Boden and cultivated the interest in horses here. Together, the various horse facilities make Boden the most horse-dense place in northern Sweden, both in absolute numbers and per capita. Boden is now known for its excellent training tracks used daily by both professional and amateur riders. With transport routes that are also passable for horse teams, there is a trotting loop of 22 km as a possible training route all year round. <\/p>\n\n

With the move here, Team Luttunen becomes part of the large trotting family in Boden. Janita Luttunen participated directly in a race on her new home track. After that, the Midnight Trot with V75, which is one of Norrbotten’s biggest public festivals. The event takes place every year just before midsummer, when the nights are brightest and the sun shines around the clock in Boden. The participants in the V75 competitions consist of some of the best horses and drivers in Sweden, with high-class and exciting races. <\/p>\n\n

“It’s really fun to be part of the Midnight Trot when Bodentravet is our new home track. We hope we’ll see so many people on site,” says Janita. <\/p>\n\n
