Christmas 1983.
After yet another violent argument, seven-year-old Andrev’s mother reveals a secret to him: his dad isn’t actually his dad.
Instead of being devastated, Andrev is thrilled by the possibilities the revelation brings. With a child’s resilience, he navigates life and his mother’s more or less destructive relationships with different men.
Andrev’s mother attracts men with an irresistible force, but even she can’t control how they behave. The men are like magicians or artists, murderers or thieves, and like growing pains they show up uninvited and disappear without warning.
Jävla karlar is a coming-of-age story filled with both darkness and humour. It’s about a boy and his mother, about a bunch of jävla karlar, and about not becoming one of them yourself.
The film is directed by Jens Sjögren. Screenplay by Jakob Beckman, based on Andrev Walden’s August Prize-winning novel. Produced by Fredrik Heinig.
Starring Aliette Opheim, Filip Berg, David Book, Jakob Öhrman, Victor Norén and Joel Spira.
