A safe meeting place for children, young people, and families settling into Boden
BIS is an open meeting place where newly arrived children, young people, and parents can find community, support, and guidance. There’s room for play, learning, and recovery – and adults have the opportunity to study Swedish or access community information while the children are well cared for.
BIS stands for Boden Integration & Collaboration. We bring together the municipality, nonprofit organizations, and businesses to ease the transition into everyday life in Boden. BIS is often described as a meeting place – a safe space where you can come just as you are, whether you want to participate in activities, apply as a volunteer, or simply have a cup of coffee, use the Wi-Fi, and meet others.
Everything is free of charge. No prior knowledge required and all materials are provided on-site.
At BIS, Save the Children runs what’s called a child-friendly space. The purpose is to ensure children’s right to play, rest, life, and development. Many of our children have experienced war and displacement. In our child-friendly space, they get a break and recovery through play, creativity, and safe adults. It’s an environment designed to let children be just that – children.
One of the nicest things we've heard was from a newly arrived person who said "What is freedom in Swedish? Frihet, yes, this is freedom."

With us, parents can study Swedish or other courses in peace and quiet while we provide childcare. At the same time, children have the opportunity to play and create through painting, crafts, story time, and movement. Adults can access language training and community information, or simply come to meet others, have coffee, and feel good. Together with our partners, we also organize various educational and cultural activities. Everything happens on a small scale with trusted leaders – and we connect through body language, gestures, and lots of smiles.
