Leende barn med mörkt lockigt hår sitter vid ett långt ljust träbord i ett bibliotek och håller upp ett rött spel med titeln Mysteriet på Museet, bokhyllor och stora gröna fönster i bakgrunden.

Application for preschool

All pre-school applicants are treated equally on the basis of the agreed rules and guidelines. All children whose parents are working or studying have the right to attend a pre-school during the time the parent is working or traveling to or from work, provided the children have a placement. The children of parents on parental leave and jobseekers also have the option of a place in a nursery school at 15 hours per week.

What to do when applying for a pre-school

  • The municipality of Boden guarantees a place in a preschool in the municipality provided that the application for a place is submitted at least four months before the desired date of placement.

  • Parents/guardians are normally required to be available to the school for 10 days during enrolment.

  • Fees are charged at the maximum rate, including during the introductory period.

  • For the application to be processed, the signature of both guardians is required, with the exception of sole guardians.

  • Guardians indicate in the application their preference for a nursery school. The municipality’s ambition in the center and areas close to the center is that the child should not have a radius of more than about 2 km to their preschool. If space is available, the municipality tries to accommodate guardians’ requests for placement, but there is no guarantee.

  • The principal decides on the placement of the preschool, with the aim of achieving well-balanced groups of children.

  • The offer of a place is made in writing; the guardian must respond to the offer within five calendar days. When the guardian declines or does not respond to the offer of their first choice, the application is closed and terminated. This means that the child is no longer in the queue. Guardians reapply if there is a need for a nursery school.

  • Children are not entitled to be placed in several nurseries at the same time. Only one place per child is accepted regardless of the operator and municipality.

  • When a parent or guardian declines an offer or does not respond to an offer for a preschool that is not their first choice, the offer is closed and the child remains in the queue. A new offer with a start date +4 months from the previously offered start date is sent when the child is back in the queue.

  • When offered a preschool that is not the first choice, guardians can choose to accept and remain in the queue, which means that they continue to queue for a transfer to the first choice. Transfers take place annually in August/September.

Separated guardians with joint custody

Guardians who have joint custody but who are registered at different addresses in Boden and where the child lives approximately equally with both guardians shall have a shared place for the child. The location can only be at the same nursery school. Thus, each guardian is responsible for his or her part of the site. If one guardian cancels their part of the place, the other guardian will be charged for the whole place.

Guardians with sole custody

In single parent families, the parent’s child is entitled to a place in a pre-school regardless of whether the partner is on parental leave or looking for work. The child’s attendance time is based on the guardian’s working hours, study time and travel time.
