Boden Överluleå Research Association (BÖFF) was founded in 1992. The association’s purpose is to promote interest in historical research, primarily genealogy and local history research, and to work towards better conditions for such research.

BÖFF conducts its activities in Råbäcksgården at the Local Heritage area where the association also sells books and self-produced materials.

The association’s dominant activity is studies, both individual and collective, related to genealogy and local history. We also conduct lectures and activities such as Archives Day and member trips where we visit places of cultural and historical interest.

“History is who we are and why we are the way we are.”
David McCullough, American historian

We have all at some point asked ourselves why things turned out the way they did:

• How and why did my family come to Boden and Norrbotten?
• Why does it look the way it does in Boden/Heden/Sävast?
• Am I also related to Gustav Vasa?

The Research Association can help you find answers to these questions. We offer, among other things, the following courses and study circles:

• Beginner and advanced courses in genealogy
• Reading old handwriting
• DNA genealogy

Do you have your own area of interest/research?

Several of our members conduct their own research within their area of interest. Andrée Gillberg is currently researching photos from the turn of the last century. Other members who have conducted research have written books about…

• Brobyn, Heden and other villages in the municipality
• The Main Line and other railways in Upper Norrland

These, and many other books with local historical connections, are available for purchase at Råbäcksgården.
