In the 19th century, the Sanden consisted of farmland and forest. At the end of the 19th century, the Malmbanan and Stambanan were built in the area. Around the turn of the century 1900, in connection with the construction of Boden’s garrison, a brickworks was built next to the ore railway. The mill operated until the late 1930s. It is from this time, with the city plan adopted in 1932, that Sanden began to be built with small houses, detached houses and small apartment buildings. There are several culturally and historically important buildings in the area, such as Tingshuset, Tallboskolan, Sandenskolan and Druidgården. Bodentravet, built in 1944, is one of the country’s oldest racetracks and has been an important meeting place since its establishment.
