Boden and our industries are growing, and the municipality’s appeal is now noticeable on many levels. One of the people behind the rising immigration statistics is Emma Penttilä from Finland, a digital marketer who moved to Boden to be with her partner, who is in the military.

Emma Penttilä is a prime example of the immigration that is now taking place in Boden – young, well-educated people who choose Boden for the opportunities offered in both career and lifestyle.

Emma is a newly arrived digital marketer from Björneborg, Finland. Her partner, Jesper Fredriksson, came here from Dalarna a few years ago and works in one of our green industries, the Armed Forces.

Emma has experience from large organizations such as Telia, smaller companies, and as a freelancer. For a couple of weeks now, she has been employed as a digital marketer at Boden Municipality. Here, she will be an important piece of the puzzle in the work with the municipality’s digital presence and breadth in a very exciting time.

The communications unit also leads the way as one of the workplaces that is enriched by having several nationalities on the job, something that offers mutual development and joy in everyday life when cultures and languages meet.

Easy entry

Emma’s main immigration guide in Boden was of course her partner, but she also highlights how easy it has been to come in from another country as a new citizen in Boden.

A natural way in was one of the channels that she is now becoming a part of – the Move to Boden website, where all the information that a newcomer might need is gathered.

– It is great that there is a bilingual website with all the information, it is clear and works very well. And everyone is so helpful, if you wonder about something, it is easy to get answers and help, says Emma.

She is now absorbing the Swedish culture, which in many ways is similar to the Finnish one. But which also has its own little peculiarities.

– Among other things, I have noticed that this thing with fika is not just about having a quick cup of coffee as in Finland. Here it is more of a social and important meeting, I like that.
