Thirteen kilometers northeast of Boden, along county road 356, the village of Skogså is the center of a cluster of small villages: Skatamarkbyarna. In addition to Skogså, this includes Åskogen, Häggan and Ubbyn. The area has been inhabited since the early Middle Ages and interesting finds have been made in the surroundings, including log boats. The buildings are mixed, with both older farms and villas built in the 1990s. Skogså has a preschool with after-school care, a soccer field, light trails and snowmobile trails. As a village, it offers a peaceful and natural accommodation with hilly forest terrain and a small forest river. In recent years, new families with children have moved here, which has led to the expansion of the village’s own preschool. About 80 people currently live in Skogså.

  • 1. rural and scenic Skogså offers a scenic and peaceful environment. The spirit of the village is described as safe, "everyone knows everyone". The whole area around the lake Skatamarkträsket is characterized by a rich bird life, which makes it interesting for ornithologists. Cranes and brown harriers are among the species that breed here.
  • 2. Active associations There are three active associations in Skogså: a village association, a sports association and a snowmobile association. The village association organizes events such as walpurgis night celebrations, coffee and taco evenings. The sports association runs the Skogså Activity Center, which offers, among other things, the rental of premises for courses, camps, conferences and parties. The activity center also provides a light trail, gymnasium, sauna, shower and school kitchen. The sports association organizes two races every spring: the Nordic ski race Skatamarksloppet (20 km) and the local Skatamarksjog (5 km). In 2019, the sports association was voted Eldsjäläl 2019 in the municipality's tribute evening Närhetsliv. The following year, the football team was promoted to Division 3.
  • 3. pre-school Skogså Friförskola has been run since 2010 by Skogså Aktivitetscenter, which took over the school when the municipality wanted to close it down. The preschool offers 32 pre-school and after-school places.
  • 4. Ateljé Blom Skogså is home to several artists and craftsmen. In Ateljé Blom, four artists are active in painting, jewelry, sculpture, metal and stone cutting.
  • 5. Hostel At Skogså school, it is possible to stay overnight in a hall with 20 army beds (bedding included). Visitors have access to a kitchen, shower and sauna.

About the area

At the end of the 19th century, the village had a water-powered sawmill, mill, dairy and a manor house. The leading activity today is the Skogså Activity Center, which in 2017 was nominated for Rural Entrepreneur of the Year at the Business Gala.
