Hamptjärnmoran, or ‘Hampis’ as the area is often called, is part of the Heden area on the western side of the Lule River. The area is characterized by a variety of single-family homes, which grew up from the 1950s onwards on former forest and agricultural land. Green, leafy, calm and pleasant are adjectives that recur in many residents’ descriptions of the area. With good bus communications and well-maintained bicycle and pedestrian paths, Hamptjärnmoran is a perfect area for families with children, as well as for anyone who appreciates the proximity to both the forest and the city center. There is a safe crossing for children attending the Heden school (a few kilometers away). The area is adjacent to the Boden South firing range and to open fields and hiking areas.

  • 1. Nature on the doorstep With its location next to the river and the forest nearby, it is quick and easy to get out into nature. In the surroundings there are both trails and snowmobile trails, the latter maintained by Boden's snowmobile association. The well-developed network of pedestrian and cycle paths also makes it safe to walk or cycle into the city center. A popular walk is the Broarna runt (7 km), which crosses the Lule River along Hedenbrovägen and Norrbottensvägen.
  • 2. Michael's Church With its location in the middle of the area, Michael's Church is an important meeting place for residents throughout the Heden area. The church was built in the late 1980s to serve as a community center. In addition to church services and Bible discussions, the church offers a wide range of activities such as dinner meetings, singing and crafts for different age groups, After School and lunchtime music. In the church hall there are five icons painted and donated by the artist Uno Öhlund. The bell tower with the church bell is a gift from the village elders and volunteer groups in the church.
  • 3. Sports clubs Through the Trångfors and Heden sports associations, children and young people in "Hampis" have the opportunity to practice both football and ice hockey. Trångfors IF is responsible for the women's team and Hedens IF for the men. Both associations use the newly renovated Olympia sports facility located in Heden, as well as a large grass field at nearby Knottvallen.
  • 4. Village hall and bakers cottage in Heden. In nearby Heden is Hedengården, which is run by Heden's village association. The property houses a large community hall that can be booked and also houses meeting rooms, a bakery and a small apartment for temporary rental. The association organizes seasonal activities such as a bonfire, fermented herring tasting and a Christmas market. Every two years, Heden Day is also held to celebrate different themes in agriculture and forestry.
  • 5. New preschool In autumn 2023, a new building will be inaugurated in the neighboring area of Trångfors, replacing four older activities, including the municipal preschool that until now has been located in "Hampis". The new two-story building draws its inspiration from nature and is built entirely in wood with a yellow-red color scheme. The school has its own food preparation kitchen.

About the area

In dramatic contrast to the area’s tranquillity and rural charm, a decades-old crime in 1979 put the Hamptjärnmoran on the news. A triple murder took place on a farm in the area on the night of April 26, and remains the only triple murder in the county. However, the crime was quickly solved and the perpetrator prosecuted, which may have helped to process the tragedy in the public mind. The incident has been recounted in many different contexts, and can be listened to in the podcast series Brottsplats Norrbotten.
